Which TSB accounts accept US citizens

Last checked

TSB has been checked for US citizens across 5 account types. 4 are open to a US person (1 with strings) and 1 is closed.

If you already have an account with TSB, a second one there is usually the easier application, because TSB has already checked who you are. Each account below carries its verdict, the evidence behind it and the date it was checked.

TSB asks that you are 18 or over and a UK resident. Its FATCA page asks customers to declare whether they are a US person, which is a reporting question rather than an eligibility condition.

TSB asks that you are 16 or over and a UK resident for most of its savings accounts, collecting tax residency and nationality for reporting rather than using them as a bar. The US taxes the interest as ordinary income.

TSB's ISA important information says you must be 18 or over and resident only in the UK for tax purposes, and that rule covers all three of its cash ISAs. Its ordinary savings terms carry no such clause, so TSB will open you a savings account and refuse you the ISA.

US persons: twelve months here, eighteen months left on an accepted visa

Citizenship is irrelevant to TSB but its visa list is the tightest here, and student and working holiday visas are refused outright. It publishes no foreign currency income policy, so assume dollar pay needs checking before you apply.

The lightest paperwork of the high street: TSB asks for your current UK address rather than years of history, and its published test is being over 18, resident here, with a regular income and no recent defaults. Nationality is never mentioned. The credit file still has to stand up, so this is easier to apply for than to be accepted for.

Account names link to the provider's own site. momo has no active affiliate partnerships; if that changes it will be disclosed and will never change a verdict. Every institution, A to Z.

Confirm your own position with a cross-border specialist. Acceptance policies and tax rules change, and your facts may differ from the general case. Rates and terms here are the provider's published figures rather than an offer, and the provider decides each application on its own criteria. Use this as a map, not a ruling. Last checked .
