Savings accounts
Compare with other providersAldermore requires you to be resident and tax resident only in the UK, and states its accounts cannot be held by US persons, a definition that includes US citizens. That is an explicit bar, not a paperwork step.

Mortgages
Compare with other providersUS persons: indefinite leave to remain, because a work eVisa is not accepted as proof of residency
No nationality bar, and no visa route either. Aldermore wants two years of UK residency and indefinite leave to remain, and states that work eVisas are not acceptable as confirmation of residency, which closes the skilled worker door outright. Income in a foreign currency is refused, and an asset held in one cannot even be used to repay an interest only loan.
Through a broker · indefinite leave to remain and two years here, no visa route

Maximum loan £1,000,000, free valuation on purchase and remortgage. |

A fee free version is 5.91% and a £1,999 fee version is 5.71%, so the sums are worth doing. |

Why this is the rule
FATCA
FATCA makes UK banks report accounts held by US persons to the IRS. It is not a tax; it is a reporting trail. Where it bites is access.
TaxFBAR
If your foreign accounts top $10,000 combined at any point in the year, you file an FBAR. What counts, when it is due, and what happens if you miss it.
