Which AIB accounts accept US citizens

Last checked

AIB has been checked for US citizens across 3 account types. All 3 are open to a US person (1 with strings).

If you already have an account with AIB, a second one there is usually the easier application, because AIB has already checked who you are. Each account below carries its verdict, the evidence behind it and the date it was checked.

Allied Irish Bank (GB)

Opens

The gate here is not US status: you must be a UK resident and already an Allied Irish Bank (GB) customer, and you open the account by calling them. Its only tax step is the standard FATCA and CRS self-certification.

The savings side sets no nationality condition: you must be a UK resident aged 18 or over, and the only tax step is the standard self-certification. New customers are limited to the Fixed Rate Saver, because the easy access and notice range is closed to new applicants. The US taxes the interest as ordinary income.

US persons: no dollar income at all, and £150,000 minimum plus PAYE employment outside Northern Ireland

Allied Irish Bank (GB) no longer writes new mortgages and sends new applicants to AIB (NI), which is the same legal entity under one licence. It publishes no nationality or visa rule at all. Three published rules do the work instead: on a property in England, Scotland or Wales the minimum loan is £150,000 and applications are taken from PAYE employees only, and income in a non-sterling currency is excluded entirely rather than discounted.

Account names link to the provider's own site. momo has no active affiliate partnerships; if that changes it will be disclosed and will never change a verdict. Every institution, A to Z.

Confirm your own position with a cross-border specialist. Acceptance policies and tax rules change, and your facts may differ from the general case. Rates and terms here are the provider's published figures rather than an offer, and the provider decides each application on its own criteria. Use this as a map, not a ruling. Last checked .
